Some search engine rely on meta tags for finding you and other links and give you more rank. Meta tags usually are the basic keys on successful web mastering.
Imprtant meta tags are
keywords

description
and
robots
. You should normally set these tags if you wish to get more rank in Search Engines.
keywords
meta tags hold information about words separated by comma that you like people find your web page by those.
description
meta tags hold a brief information about what your web page does.
robots
meta tags directs search engine crawlers for indexing and following your site.
How To Use Meta Tags?
You should place these meta tags inside your
head
HTML tag. View below code for more underestanding:

What is Robots Meta Tag?
Robots meta tags tell search engines what they should do with your page. Most popular values are:
index
value: This page should be indexed in search engine.
noindex
value: This page should not be indexed in search engine.
follow
value: Search engines should follow all links inside this page.
nofollow
value: Search engines should not follow any links inside this page.
You should separate a combination of these valuse by comma.
It is obvious that you should not use combination of
index
and
noindex
values together.
You should not use combination of
follow
and
nofollow
values either.
If your Site Link Exchange is inside a page containing any of these meta tags:
